This weekend we were able to complete a test run of a drive-thru ceremony. Our focus was to work out the idea and compile a list of things to consider when setting up this type of event. Plus, we took pictures of various poses that you can use to get the idea across when presenting to schools.
Things to consider:
- Does the graduate have their cap and gown on when they arrive?Schools will want to communicate that graduates need to be fully dressed before they get in the car line to keep the procession moving.
- Has the graduate registered? If a roster was not available and we do not want to handout unique registration qr code cards, then they will need to register prior to getting into the handoff line.
- If the graduates are staggered over enough time, they could pull up, scan the qr code, enter their information and then proceed to the diploma station.
- If the procession is moving at a fairly brisk pace, you almost want a registration queue done in parking spaces so that when they are ready they can head to the diploma station.
- If they were supposed to register prior to arrival, those that did could go to the handoff station and be matched using PhotoMatch. Those that did not would pull over to the side and complete the registration step.
- It will be easiest to manage the shooting by using a standard grad handshake rig and PhotoMatch tablet over the shoulder. We found that we had to change angles a bit depending on the shots.
- Shorter cars will make it harder for the graduate to lean towards the window with the cap on.
- Since we are trying to capture the presenter and grad together, the background is not visible if they stay in the car. Keep in mind, the car should be facing away from the sun.
6. Another variation to consider, with safety in mind, is to have the car pull up, the graduate steps out, has their picture taken with the presenter and then drives away.
